Release Date of Lady Gaga’s “Judas” Revealed on Gagavision no. 41

Is this really the 41st installment of Gagavision? How have I missed the previous 40 videoblogs? I have a confession. Sometimes I’m mystified why I seem to know so much Lady Gaga news and other people don’t. Then I realize, oh yeah, I’m a Facebook “friend” (I was one of the first six million and something of her 31,000,000+ current “friends”). I get the status updates. And sometimes I do the Google thing and see who’s reporting what. Anyway, today on Facebook, Lady Gaga sent out Gagavision no. 41. Here it is:

Toward the end, we see Gaga (sans heels) rehearsing with her dancers for the “Judas” video (for which she is a first-time director). And we learn the date of the song’s release: April 19th.

(Yes, I marked my calendar. It’s right up there with Judy’s birthday, Sam’s dissertation defense date, Randi’s birthday, Niko’s birthday, and some other meaningful scribbles of a professional or appointment-like nature.)

Little Monsters will know to prepare for the possibility of further surprise. I know that’s sort of oxymoronic, the idea of preparing for surprise, but I’m thinking of Gaga’s announcement of the release date for “Born This Way,” the single. It was originally slated for release on February 13th, the same day she debuted it live on the Grammy Awards. But she bumped up the release date to February 11th, so some of us could sing along with her live performance. (Thanks, Gaga.) I’m just saying I marked my calendar for April 19th, but maybe, just maybe, we’ll hear it sooner than that. Be prepared!

On first viewing of Gagavision no. 41, I have to confess to some disappointment at the amount of attention given to Gaga’s encounter with the bigot who claims to be Christian. The GLBT community well knows his and his ilk’s message. We’ve heard it time and again. I didn’t enjoy having to suffer the repetition and would like to see the plethora of Gaga’s wonderful GLBT fans and straight GLBT supporters. After some consideration, however, I think the importance of that clip is in Gaga’s approach, her initiation of conversation, and the grace with which she handled his slurs. It’s a reminder of her advocacy of the GLBT community, her work for equal rights for all.

The Jesus I learned about would probably take in the Monster Ball and help Gaga refine her message. The Jesus I learned about figured out a way to love everyone: Gaga, her fans, the GLBT community, etc., and oh, that fool bigot and his kind too. But so as to avoid becoming Proselytizer Gaga, I’ll desist on the religious rhetoric.
